Kufra is a welcome sight. A spring of natural water quenches the thirst of date palms and the tired traveler. (see image) Travelers crossing the desert in North Africa can travel along a route that strings together oases that offer rest and recovery spots for people and their beasts of burden.

As you favor the taste of fresh dates and fresh water, you notice a merchant from another caravan approach you. He explains that his caravan chief was killed when their caravan attacked by raiders. They are now extremely desperate and will pay a handsome reward of 20 dinars to anyone who can provide a map showing them how to get from the Kufra Oasis to Timbuktu, following sources of water.

In addition to the map they will need to know how many days of water they will need to take along each leg. In order to figure this out the merchant reminds you that they can travel 25 miles per day by camel.
