Pagemill is a handy program that lets you see your page as you build it. Behind the scenes it is writing your work in HTML, but what you see is very close to how your page will appear on a browser. This tutorial gives you a basic understnding of the key features of Pagemill 2.0 and 3.0. There are more advanced features not covered here. Pagemill has a Preview mode and
an Edit mode. The active mode
A. Start Your First Page 1. In the File menu, choose the New page command. 2. Title your page: click in the box next to the word 'Title' in the tools bar and type. This title will appear at the top of the browser. Now is a good time to save your first page as well. Save it as sample.html into a folder titled public_html B. Paste in Text -- then Edit Open the application (such as MSWord) that you are taking text from. Highlight, then "copy" this text (command "c"). Place your cursor where you want the text in your open Pagemill document. Paste it by hitting command "v". Edit: You can directly type or edit the text in PageMill like any other word processing application. You can format the text by highlighting it, then clicking on the various options on the bar at the top of your page. The Format menu (It usually says "Paragraph") gives you particular options, including sizes, bulleted lists, etc. To modify the color of the text, choose Windows|show Attributes Inspector. You can choose a custom color from the "Body Text" menu. Remember to always have high contrast, and think of those who are colorblind. To select a color background for the page, select custom in the background popup menu and choose a color from the dialog box of color picker. To select a background image, such as a border or texture, click on the little page icon at the very bottom left of the Inspector. This will open up an icon showing your images available. Make sure you only import images from the "image" folder in your Public_html folder. (You could try one of the border images from this image bank) To add horizontal rules (plain
lines) put the cursor where you want the line and hit the Insert
Horizontal Rule Button. |
