Bay Area Science Project: Focus on Earth Science: Aug. 6 to 17
Institute activities will build content knowledge, effective teaching practices, and leadership skills, while addressing the Earth Science and the Investigation and Experimentation strands of the California State Science Standards.

Enrollment Fee to be paid by school or district: $800 (MSDP can pay)

Each participant will receive a $1000 stipend along with $300 classroom materials allowance upon completion of the institute. Also, four semester units of university credit through UC extension is available.

Nsaka Sunsum: Touching the Spirit: An Educational Process for Achieving Educational Success with African American Students. August 14 to 18, at SF State. "A multifaceted institute which includes sessions on the "Naksa Sunsum: Touching the Spirit" with national and local university educators noted for their work in effective programs for African American students. In small-group sessions, successful classroom teachers and university educators will demonstrate and analyze effective classroom curricula, instructional practices, and discuss classroom implementation.
