mossy chitonMossy Chiton

(Mopalia ciliata)

by Joseph

The mossy chiton can get to be three to six cm long. It lives in the mid-tide zone, from Alaska to Mexico. They have a hard shell on their backs, and camouflage so other animals don't eat them. They live under and on top of rocks.

When I went to the beach, one of the animals I saw was the mossy chiton. It has lumps in the middle of its back and moss all around. It didn't really move, it just stayed there.
