To Principals, Vice Principals, Site Techs, and Computer Users:

This is to alert all of your computer users that a mass mailing worm, "Nimda" has been found on some O.U.S.D. computers. This virus has the potential to do some very malicious mischief including but not limited to:

1.     Compromises to system security and integrity.
2.     Deletion or modification of files.
3.     Can destroy hard-drives
4.     Creation of “backdoors”.
5.     Configuring of firewall rules.
6.     Reproduction consuming space on computers.
7.     Web Servers are especially vulnerable.

You can read more about the “Nimda” worm at the Symantec Virus Alert section on O.U.S.D.’s Home Page.  http://www.ousd.k12.ca.us

A combined decontamination effort is happening from all Technical Personnel. Technicians will be coming to school sites to check and fix computers wherever possible.  Older OTX machines may not be able to handle a “fix” and will have to be switched out at a future date for machines with more memory.Your computer users may experience “insufficient memory” and some applications may not work well.  Routine technical support requests may be put on hold until this larger problem is resolved.

Please contact the Help Desk at 879-8623 with questions or concerns. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
