How to set The Jet Direct Printers up and
how to configure the New Oracle Work Stations put in the Schools
Here is a step by step procedure to follow in order to print via a DHCP
on the network.
Very important note: Before this configuration procedure,
you have to go to each classroom and make sure the Jet Direct device is
hooked to the HP printer and plugged via a Cat5 wire in the hub
You have to make sure the Cat5 is coming from the drop on the wall
and going out into the up link of the hub. (Make sure it is plugged in
correctly.)
After this is done and the green light on both of the hub and the Jet
Direct box is lit, collect all the LAN numbers of the Jet Direct box
by pressing the flashing botton on the box.
First stage
- Connect your laptop to the school patch panel at the MDF level by
plugging it in one of the active port available on the patch panel.
- On your laptop screen go to: Start
- Program
- HP jet admin Utilities (You can download
HP jet admin Utilities software from the internet by typing this URL
: http://imgsvr
- HP jet admin
- Click on F5 to refresh and update the database
- Click on Device
- Go to Next
- Select device
- Configure it In general print Server name (eg: HP-ROOM28)
- Click on Next
- Select Automatically Obtain Tcp/IP and click on next
- Click on the mac icon ( if exist)
- Enter printer name(eg: HP-ROOM28)
- Click on Finish
- Close New Device window
- Select the named newly printer( eg:HP-ROOM28) and double click on
it to open it
- Select Diagnostic
- Click on TCP/IP
- Click on general
- Write down the TCP/IP numbe
- Click on OK.
Now that you have the IP number of the Jet Direct box, you can start
the configuration of your printer
Second stage
- Open the CD-ROM drive of the Oracle
(Push the button of the CD-ROM drive of the Oracle by restarting it)
- Replace the Student CD with an Oracle Setup C
- After the Oracle has finished booting up click on the icon that looks
like a box ( NIC Setup)
- Click on change in the area that says printer.
- Click on Network and click on next in the area that says Using a
Printer.
- Type in the DHCP or IP number in the area that says Printer Address
( You can also enter room number in the area that says Printer Queue.
- Click on Finish
- Click on Close.
Internet connection configuration (DHCP) or ( IP)
- Open the CD-ROM drive of the Oracle
(Push the button of the CD-ROM drive of the Oracle by restarting it
- Replace the Student cd with an Oracle Setup cd
- After the Oracle has finished booting up, click on the icon
that looks like a box ( NIC Setup)
- Click on change in the area that
says Connection. (Continue by clicking next)
- Click on Using a Ethernet connection
in the area that says Select your Internet Connection.
(Continue by clicking next)
- Select DHCP Protocol if you have a DHCP
server or IP number in the area that says IP
Configuration. (Continue by clicking next)
- (Continue by clicking next) in the area that says activate
- Uncheck Proxy if you have a DHCP server. (Continue by clicking next)
- (Continue by clicking next)
- Click on Close
How to turn your pc into a file server
- Locate any PC with enough hard drive space on it in your school or
classroom
- Name that PC with the school name by going to the network and change
the computer name, the workgroup,
and computer discription in the area that says identification
- Select File and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks and
IPX/SPX-compatible Protocol in the area that says configuration
- Create a new folder with a name: eg Oracle
- Right click on the folder and scroll down to sharing…
Click on i7
- Check the box that says: Share As.. and give a name in the area that
says: Share Name: eg ROOM1
- Also in the area that says Access Type: Check on box Full.
Now that you have shared your PC and created a shared folder in the C
drive you can begin saving your files from the Oracle workstations in
the folder you had created
HOW TO SAVE YOUR FILES FROM THE ORACLES
TO THE PC SHARED FOLDER
- Launch your Word Processor application and when saving your file,
make sure the file is saved in (rtf) format if it is word file and
(JEPG) if it is a graphic Note: Oracle accepts only rtf format for any
word processing file and JEPG format for any graphic file
- From your Word Processor application open file and click on Save as
- In the Area that says Status: make sure you are connected
- Click on SMB icon below the zip icon
- In the area that says Save file as: name your file and click on connect
- And in the area that says connect to an SMB server click on connect
How to retrieve your file from the shared folder on
the PC
- Lauch your Word Processor application
- Open File and click on open
- Click on SMB icon
- Select the file you want to open and click on connect
- Click on connect in the area that says connect to an SMB server
- Click on ok.
